What does self-trust mean?
I was listening to a ‘Feel Better Live More’ podcast recently about how to bring about lasting change in your life and the topic of self-trust came up. This is the idea that we have inside an inner knowing and expertise about what is best for us, but many of us have lost touch with the ability to connect with this.
There is so much information on any topic available at the click of a button that it almost seems unwise to trust ourselves. When information and advice feels overwhelming and you don’t know where to start, why not experiment with spending some quiet time connecting with your body and listening to what is has to say,? This is not easy at first and is a skill to develop over time.
Learn to pay attention to how you feel, how you are sleeping and what your energy levels are like, without judgment. This process is sometimes called interoception and gradually, you can get better at understanding and interpreting this information. Perhaps the tightness in your chest is an indication of stress and that you’re doing too much? You can then course correct with more confidence.
Remember: you are unique and no-one knows you better than you do and by trusting yourself, you can over time, change the way you relate to the world.
