About me

I have a BSc First Class Honours in Humanistic Counselling from Metanoia Institute and am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

My first career was as a family lawyer, where my desire to better understand couples in conflict led to an interest in counselling and psychotherapy. Many years of working through my own life challenges also informs the way I work.

I have learnt that the past often shows up in the present and that we can make lasting change by bringing this into awareness and taking appropriate action.

I have an interest in working with the nervous system and emotions in the body, as a way of accessing wisdom not always available to the mind.

As a member of the BACP, I subscribe to its ethical framework which is found here

I work online and in person in Barnes and Clapham, South-West London and offer a 20-minute free phone call where we can look at working together and explore whether I am the right counsellor for you.

Kim Marshall is a qualified psychotherapist accredited by the BACP. She is a former family lawyer so works online and in person in Barnes, South-West London

How I work

I offer a confidential, safe, non-judgmental space for you to explore what is going on for you and I encourage you to be open and honest to gain the most benefit from our work together. I emphasise the quality of the relationship between us, as research shows this is the most significant aspect of successful therapy outcomes, rather than the type of therapy offered. My aim is not to give you advice but to support you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your patterns and needs, whilst offering you tools and ideas along the way. I can also support you to improve you communication skills.

My training is in Gestalt, Person-centred and Transactional Analysis therapy.  I describe myself as an integrative practitioner and my work is informed by my accumulated knowledge and experience.

My work is regularly reviewed by a counselling supervisor, to ensure I provide the most effective and ethical service.

How Counselling works

I offer a free 20-minute phone call to discuss working together and answer any questions you may have. We will then meet to discuss what is going on in your life and your aims for therapy. We can arrange further sessions which will be at the same time each week and last for 50 minutes.

How long does counselling last?

Everyone is different and there is no typical number of sessions. I work with long-term and short-term clients and will always aim to review progress regularly.

What does it cost?

My fee is £75 for 50 minutes and this is subject to annual review.

Payment is made by bank transfer before the session or cash on the day.
